Construction subcontractors

CIS tax refund, flat fee

Most subcontractors on 20% deductions are owed money back every year. We file the return, HMRC pays the refund to your account, and the fee is £249 whatever the refund, paid only when you have seen the figure and approved the return. From April 2027, CIS Year adds your four quarterly digital updates: £349, paid the same way.

Landlords

Making Tax Digital, done for you

From 6 April 2027, landlords with over £30,000 of rent and self-employed income file four quarterly updates and a year-end. £399 a year covers all five filings for up to three properties, and the page tells you first whether you are in.

How it works

Three steps, the same for every service.

Message or send the form

Say which of the three you need. A named person replies in writing, in one thread you keep.

Send what you have

Photos of CIS statements, a rent spreadsheet, a payroll export. Over WhatsApp or email. Nothing has to be tidy.

It gets filed, and you see it

A chartered accountant prepares and files it, and you get a one-page summary of exactly what went to HMRC and when.

Why the price is fixed

Refund firms that take a percentage are paid more when your refund is bigger, which is a reason to pad the expenses. The Low Incomes Tax Reform Group says so in its guidance on refund agents. A fixed fee removes the incentive, and a named chartered accountant removes the anonymity.

The Advertising Standards Authority has an enforcement notice on how tax-refund firms may advertise. The rule we work to is simpler than the notice: every fee on the page, nothing sold as free that leads to a contract, and the refund goes to you.

Every price, on one page

What you get, every time

  • A fee agreed in writing before any work starts.
  • One named chartered accountant, start to finish.
  • A one-page summary of what was filed and when.
  • Refunds paid by HMRC to your own account.
  • No renewal, no subscription you did not ask for.

Common questions

Who does the work?

Patrick Roper, an ICAEW chartered accountant. His name and membership number are on every engagement letter. There is no sales team and no hand-off.

Where does a refund go?

To your own bank account, from HMRC. We never take an assignment of a refund and we do not hold client money. Since 2023 HMRC will not pay refunds to agents under an assignment anyway, so be wary of anyone who asks for one.

Are there any fees that are not on this site?

No. Every fee is listed on the prices page before you give us a single detail. No percentage of your refund, no fee for a faster refund, no renewal that you did not ask for.

Is this an HMRC service?

No. Tax Filed For You is an independent firm. HMRC has its own free online services, and if your affairs are simple enough to use them you will be told so.
